My Fictional Friends, 2015

For 2015, our booklist was presented as a kind of diary of my best friends favorite fiction. I asked each of the ladies to share a short list of their favorite books, either books they’d read and loved long ago or something new. After we had everyone’s lists, I picked two from each list, wrote short summaries for them and then the whole group voted on which of the two they preferred to read.

Our reading list for 2015 was:

January: Kristin Lavransdatter by Sigrid Undset

February: A Good Man is Hard to Find by Flannery O’Connor

March: Gilead by Marilynne Robinson

April: A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith

May: The Sheltering Sky by Paul Bowles

June: March by Geraldine Brooks

July: In Search of Our Mothers’ Gardens by Alice Walker

August: The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt

September: We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves by Karen Joy Fowler

October: As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner

November: 84, Charing Cross Road by Helene Hanff

December: The Red Tent by Anita Diamant
